So you had a bad day...

Yesterday was a bit of a rough day for me. It was one of those days where I think I've lost my mind completely. I'm not sure why exactly, but the day started out rough from the get go. It seemed to be one of those days where I say the dumbest things or do things like I have checked out completely. I'll spare you the details of most of the day, but I thought I would share just one of the examples from my "mindless day." Chad has been desperately in need of a hair cut. Apparently his barber (me) has been slacking off and not doing her job. So last night I told him I would cut his hair and make him look all spiffy for his job interview tomorrow. I'm new to the hair cutting thing and I am by no means an expert. Every time I get nervous before I start that I am going to screw his hair up big time, but every time it has turned out pretty good...that is until last night. I got the bathroom all ready, the clippers all set, and put Chad in his cape and we were ready to go. I checked to see if I had the right level on and I did and away I went. Right down the middle of his head! Usually I start on the side with that level and for some reason I just went for the middle! I'm losing it I swear! Right after I made that cut I said "Wow! Your hair was REALLY long this time!" Hello! It was long, but usually I do a 1" on top instead of a 3/8 "! No wonder! Unfortunatly Chad was on the receiving end of my mindlessness. Here is a picture right after I made my stripe down the middle of poor Chad's head.

Luckily Chad is a sweetheart and forgave me. We ended up pretty much just buzzing his head. It is now really, really short. The rest of the time while I was cutting his hair he was cracking jokes about his hair and what happened. He managed to make me laugh instead of cry. Thank goodness! What a guy! He still looks handsome as ever though I promise! According to Chad today it's drawn some attention to him at school. I'm sure everyone at the law school has heard about his crazy wife by now so I figured I might as well post about it. I'll post some pictures soon with the end results.

Another thing that happened was a little crazy for me. I'm sitting at my desk at work looking at the clock wondering if 5 o'clock is ever going to come when all aof the sudden I hear the tornado sirens started going off. I sat there frozen at my desk wondering what in the world is going on and what to do. Students and faculty members started coming up to me asking me what do do. Since I'm not from the midwest I had no clue! I'm probably the worst person to ask! Now if this were an earthquake I'd for sure know what to do and jump under my desk or the nearest doorway. Guess that comes from being raised in Utah and doing earthquake drills in school all the time. Tornados are a whole new thing for me and frankly ever since I read the book Night of the Twisters and saw the movie Twister I am a little freaked out by them. I sat at my desk wondering if the business building that I work in was going to be picked up like in The Wizard of Oz and fly around in the air. I can just picture the Wicked Witch going by my window on a bicycle cackeling. I know my imagination was getting carried away, but I'd never experienced a tornado warning before and I was a little scared. Apparently tornado season has started early here. I read in the newspaper that one family saw their swing set go flying by and they lost their shed...it was gone! Am I the only one that gets freaked out by those kinds of things? Luckily the sirens eventually stopped and the storms over our part of Lincoln and we were able to make it home safely. Hopefully I will get more accustomed to living in the Midwest and not be so scared of tornados since we'll be here for the next three years.

Confession

I have never been a person that enjoys watching the news. I find it depressing in some ways to hear all the terrible things that are going on in our world. I know it's good to be an informed person, but I can usually only handle a few minutes of it. I'm even worse when it comes to talk radio. I have to admit that I usually get bored out of my skull listening to it. I have never listened to it by my own choice. I happen to love listening to music. It relaxes me, it pumps me up, it inspires me, etc, etc. I love to be able to find a good song that matches my mood. Chad is also a music lover and loves to just sing his little heart out. However, his second love goes to news/talk radio. Gag me! I have to admit that sometimes I complain about listening to it, but I will still listen to it and occasionally hear something interesting that really catches my attention.-I rarely admit this to Chad in fear that he will make me listen to it full time. haha So this morning Chad happened to be listening to the news on the radio on the way to drop me off at work. I was listening along wishing I was jamming out to some good tunes instead. I went on my merry little way to work and went through my day. My co-worker usually gives me the newspaper everyday and everyday I browse the front page...and that's about as far as I go unless something really, really grabs my attention. Well today I am happy to report that I already knew about everything that was on the front page thanks to the morning news! I confess that I was a little excited that I knew what was going on in the world. Maybe Chad is slowly converting me to the news side of radio! Oh no! I never thought that would happen!  I can't say that I'm going to start listening to news radio by myself anytime soon, but maybe I will just appreciate it a bit more when Chad flips it on.  

Switcheroo

I have to just say that I've had a hard time this week trying to come up with things to blog about. I've been racking my brain trying to think if we've done anything new and exciting. Needless to say I'm scratchin' at the bottom of the barrel these days. We pretty much stick to our same routine of work, school, and church. Not too exciting.
Speaking of routines, I've noticed that most couples when they are married get into their own little routines. Things such as sitting at the same place at the table, eating certain things, having sides of the bed, etc, etc. Chad and I have quickly fallen into these same routines. We each have our spot at our little four person kitchen table. We never sit in the other two spots and the only time they are used is if we have company over. Although nothing has ever been said to claim these places we each still sit in the same spot every time. When we first got married we each picked a side of the bed and have stuck with it, that is until now. The other night we decided to make a switcheroo and spice things up a bit by switching sides of the bed that we sleep on. I know my parents have been married over 30 years and have ALWAYS slept on the same side of the bed. Switching sides would be unheard of in their house. So when we made the big switch I have to admit that the first night we both had a hard time sleeping. Maybe because we were so excited with the "big change or maybe we were just not used to that side of the bed. I vaguley remember rolling over the next morning to turn off my alarm and instead having my hand hit into Chad. Apparently I was a little disoriented. I guess it'll take a little time to adjust. We will just have to wait and see how long our little switcheroo lasts.

Random thoughts and happenings

This post is completely random thoughts that are on my mind right now or things that have happened lately.

1. I have really gotten back into a good running routine this semester and I am loving it! Plus it makes it even better that I have a great gym buddy. Thanks girl! The other night I ran 7 miles and I felt fabulous! Who knows...maybe I'll run another 1/2 marathon sometime this year just for fun.

2. Chad and I hit our 7 month mark today! This semester has completely flown by! Even though some weeks I don't get to see him that much I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful husband who works so hard. He has the biggest heart and is constantly serving others. Plus he puts up with me and for that alone he deserves an award. He is my best friend, the shoulder I cry on, the one person I need more than anything, and the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you Chad!

3. Today I have an overwhelming feeling of grattitude for my life right now. Looking back to last year at this time I had no clue that my life was about to change in every way possible. But I can say that although everything has completely changed in my life, it has been for the better in every way. I have learned so much and know that the Lord had been preparing me for things that are happening in my life now and the things to come.

4. Today it is suppose to be warm! Horray for warm weather! This morning it was humid and the sun was shining. I am definantly not used to the muggy humid smell...but there is a smell to it! It is suppose to be about 60 degrees today so I'm hoping that the wind doesn't ruin this fabulous day.

5. I'm pretty sure my car must have a sign on the bumper that says "Please hit me!" I told Chad that before we got married and I think he might be starting to believe me since we have been rear-ended twice since we moved here.-Yes it's ridiculous!

6. I love Sam's club. I love walking around and seeing everything in bulk for some reason. It also makes me want to buy even more...which means I have to use will power and just speed through the store. Get in, get out. Chad loves it even more than me. But the downside is that I find it depressing when I get to the checkstand to find out how much it costs for just five items. Maybe I'm just cheap?

7. Last weekend my husband took me to a chick flick. He's such a trooper! We had to book it to our car that was parked a few blocks away in a snow storm. I was of course wearing heels and trying not to slide all over the place or fall. For some reason it seemed extra hard to walk in these boots that night. When we got home I discovered that my heel had broken off almost all the way! No wonder it was so hard to walk in! It's a sad day when one of your favorite pairs of shoes break.

He doesn't have a chance to spend much time in front of the TV, but if he is it is probably snowboarding on the Wii or watching a chick flick with me.

He will eat anything that is placed in front of him whether or not he likes it.

Probably cars or something techy.

Anything with meat on it or PB and honey on homemade wheat bread

Pizza! Although last week I think he got a little burnt out on it...who would've ever thought that was possible?!!

Honey Nut Cherrios or Honey Comb

11) What would he never wear?

He refuses to wear the pink tie from our wedding because "it is too bold." I'm still trying to convince him to wear it. haha

That's a secret, but it was pretty funny voting that day!

15) What's something you do that he wishes you didn't do?

He could probably list a million things, but what comes to mind first is slamming my car door. Habit I guess. :)

Iphone! He wants one so bad! He's big on technology!

Last year I made him homemade carrot cake that we ate off the counter thanks to Brad showing us how the top was sunkin in! haha We ended up frosting the bottom too making for twice as much cream cheese frosting! Good memories!

Track and swimming.

19) What could he spend hours doing?

Hanging out with me OR mountain biking

20) What's one unique talent he has?
