On Monday, March 16th, all sorts of weird things happened with my body. I was sitting reading a book with Carson and went to stand up and got this horrible stabbing pain in my hip. It felt like it had been pulled totally out of place! I literally could not walk or move without severe pain. It was crazy!! Then later that night when I was going to bed I got sick and started throwing up. I told Chad that I hoped this baby came soon because I couldn't handle much more of these curve balls my body kept throwing at me.
The next morning, Tuesday March 17th, I had my 39 week check up. Of course my OB, Dr. Spencer, was out of town and so I just saw his PA. She checked me and I was only dilated to a 2...I hadn't progressed at all since last week! My doctor had scheduled me for an induction on March 23rd when he would be back from vacation, so I knew that I still had a whole week to go. One week at the end of pregnancy, especially after the day I had before, felt like an eternity. After I got home and told Chad about the appointment I decided to just come to terms with the fact that she probably wasn't going to come out until I was induced and that I should just look forward to that date instead of hoping she'd come before then.
Throughout the rest of that day I felt like I was leaking a little fluid. I figured that if I really was leaking that contractions would start, but they didn't so I just ignored it. That night as we were getting ready for bed I went to go to the bathroom and realized that I was bleeding bright red blood. I'd never had that happen at this point in pregnancy before so I wasn't sure exactly what it meant. We called my sister-in-law, who is a nurse, and asked her. She recommended that I go to the hospital to get checked. That was about at 11:30pm. We decided to wait another half hour or so to see if anything would happen. We waited until about 12:30am then decided to call Chad's aunt Debbie to come watch the kids while we went to the hospital. While we were getting ready to leave for the hospital I started getting contractions that came 7 to 10 minutes apart.
We arrived at the hospital at 1:30am and got put in a labor and delivery room and all hooked up to the monitors. My nurse checked me and I was dilated to a 3. By 2am the contractions started coming every 3 to 5 minutes and getting harder each time. Chad turned on HGTV to help distract me from the pain. I was checked again and Then all of the sudden right before 3am my contractions started coming really fast...1 to 2 minutes apart and were really painful. I was shocked how fast they started coming. My nurse came in and checked me and I was dilated between a 5 and 6. By this time I was ready for an epidural. They came in and gave me the epidural at 3:45am. This time the epidural hurt more than it did when I got it with Brooklyn because they dug around a bit when they were putting in the needle. I was so grateful when my epidural kicked in at about 4am and I was finally able to relax. Both Chad and I were exhausted and so we decided to try and sleep while we waited for me to progress some more.
At about 5:15am I woke up and could not sleep anymore. I was starting to feel quite a bit of pressure and I also felt restless. I just was ready to meet my baby girl and hold her. Chad woke up not too long after that and we called in the nurse to check me because of all the pressure I was feeling. My nurse checked me and I was at an 8 almost 9. She called the Dr. Hurst, who was covering for Dr. Spencer since he was out of town. The nurses and Dr. Hurst came in and started getting everything ready for the delivery. Dr. Hurst was so funny and laid back. The whole time during the delivery he was just chatting it up with us, which I've never had a doctor do, but I really enjoyed. Also, they didn't put up a big sheet over my legs and so I could actually see what was going on. Dr. Hurst had me reach down and touch the baby's head as it was crowning. I never thought I'd want to do something like that, but actually it was really cool and motivating for me. I only had to push for 20 minutes or so before Kyndi made her grand entrance at 6:48am. Dr. Hurst immediately placed Kyndi on my stomach for me to hold her. There's nothing quite like holding your child for the first time. It's always a very emotional thing for me since it feels like you've just been handed a little piece of heaven. I was so grateful that Kyndi was finally here! After it taking us two years to get pregnant, and stay pregnant, I was overjoyed to finally be able to hold this sweet girl that I had been wanting for so long.
We love our little Kyndi and we are so grateful that she is a part of our little family! The kids are so excited and just love her to pieces!
