Meet Brooklyn

These past couple of weeks have been very chaotic between having a baby, moving, and then not having internet for over a week. So I am just finally getting around to updating the blog.

So here is the birth story: I went to the doctor on Monday, August 8th and they said I was at a 4 and about 85% effaced. I was really hoping I'd be further along by then considering I was 39 weeks and more than ready to have this baby. I had scheduled an induction date for Friday the 12th with my doctor two weeks before and he said he'd be very surprised if I made it that long without going into labor. Well Thursday came and still nothing had happened. We decided to bump the induction to Saturday the 13th in the morning so that I could sleep the night before instead of being in labor all night long. Friday night Carson got sick and was up about every 15 minutes. So much for a good night sleep! We woke up Saturday morning a little before 6am and headed to the hospital. For some reason I was so nervous. I guess it was because I actually had time to think about what was about to happen as opposed to with Carson just being in labor and not thinking about things at all because I was in too much pain. Anyway, we arrived at Davis Hospital and they started getting me all ready. I was so lucky to have one of neighbors, Lisa Flint, as my nurse, and also my sister-in-laws aunt as the tech. They were both so great and helpful! My doctor came in and broke my water at 7:45am. We waited 10 to 15 minutes and then the contractions all of the sudden came on like crazy. I didn't know what to expect, but I sure didn't expect the contractions to be that hard that soon. They came about 1-2 minutes apart and were very intense. By about 9:15am I decided that I was too exhausted from the night before to have enough energy to continue to go natural and so they sent for the epidural man. He arrived a little after 9:30am and got to work. The worst part was trying to hold completely still during the middle of hard labor while getting the epidural. Right after he finished giving all the shots I passed out. I'm not sure why exactly I passed out, but it only lasted a few seconds. Once the epidural started to take effect I was out like a light. I was so exhausted! Lisa came in and checked me a little after 10am and I was at a 10 already! They gave me 15 more minutes to rest and then it was baby time. I only had to push for 5 or 10 minutes and she was born at 10:55am. The cord was wrapped around her neck and so she came out blue, but she was breathing and everything was good. Brooklyn weighed in at 8lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long with lots of dark hair. I couldn't believe how big she was! She outweighed her brother by 2 pounds! Amazing! We were slackers on the picture taking this time and didn't take nearly as many pictures as we should have.

Getting ready to go to the hospital that morning.
Smiling between contractions.
Chad took a picture of the monitor when I was dilated to a 10 having contractions non-stop
And this is me sleeping during those contractions at a 10 thanks to the lovely epidural!
Holding Brooklyn for the first time.

Here is a picture of Brooklyn the next day. She had pinked up quite a bit and looked much better.

I love her dark hair and chunky thighs! I am praying her dark hair doesn't fall out!

Going home from the hospital.

She is so beautiful! I'm so glad that you didn't have to push for too terribly long (although I'm sure it was still painful enough :) I love you guys and am so excited to see you when I come to Utah next!

so cute! Congrats. I didn't get much sleep the night before I was induced -- its so hard to go through all that pain when you are so tired on top of it! Good job!

Congratulations Michelle! She looks like such a cutie! Glad that everything went well for you. That is CRAZY that you moved right after having a baby...I think both of those things on their own are a little overwhelming...but together! Wow! You're amazing! :) Hope life is settling down for you a little bit (well, as much as it can with a newborn!).

She is absolutely adorable! That is quite the birth story and thank goodness for epidurals! They are such a wonderful blessing! It is always a little crazy moving but adding a new baby to the mix makes for an even crazier move! Glad to hear you are settled and now you can enjoy your newest addition :) Congratulations! We are getting ready to have our little guy any day and I hope I can hold out until Zeb gets home. He has been out of town for the last month and still has 6 days to go! My Dr told me it could be any day and I keep praying he will stay in there so his daddy can be there for the birth! All of these new babies are so much fun!
