Things I never thought I would do

Although I have only been married for a short time I have already done things that I never thought I would do.  I'm sure these are the first of many however.  The first thing I swore to Chad before we got married that I wouldn't cut his hair.  I have never trusted myself enough to cut anyone's hair before and I didn't want to be responsible if I cut his hair and it turned out bad.  Plus I am very particular on who does my own hair and I only trust professionals.  There are a few people that I trust to do it (Holly, Randee, and Marcie).  Anyway so the other day Chad comes home and announces that he has bought a pair of clippers and plans to cut his own hair that night.  I have to admit I was glad that he wasn't planning on me doing it, but I was nervous that he was going to do it himself.  When he started cutting his hair I just sat and watched at first, however, then it just looked so painfully awkward that I couldn't stand it anymore and I just had to help him.  Needless to say I ended up cutting his hair after all.  It's for sure nothing close to as good as a professional, but I guess it'll have to work for now.

The second thing I never thought I would do would be to can applesauce. I've done it once before with my sister-in-law Lisa.  Although I had fun doing it because it was with her I just remembered it taking FOREVER and so I had told myself I'd never do it again.  Well a couple of weeks ago for young women's we went to an orchard of a family in our ward to pick apples.  We picked bags and bags that we all got to take home.  Even though I love apples, I knew Chad and I couldn't eat a whole garbage bag full.  I was telling this to one of the other young women leaders when she invited me to come over and can applesauce.  Since I am new here I figured it would be a good opportunity for me to get to know her better so I said yes even though I was dreading canning.  We got together with the two other couples and had dinner.  Then the boys went downstairs and played the Wii for the next six hours while us girls slaved away making the applesauce.  I do have to give the guys some credit though for always being willing to help whenever we asked them and for helping clean up.  It was 1am in the morning before we were completely finished.  My feet even got all red and swollen, but it was all worth all the hard work in the end to be able to have homemade applesauce all year.  Here are a couple jars to prove it.  :)

Michelle, you are fabulous! Cutting hair and canning.... I'm not sure I'd want to do those either, but way to be! Chad is looking great under your care, and I'm so excited to see you both in a little over a month!

Michelle, I have no idea how I missed this blog entry of yours! You did a great job cutting Chad's hair! And look at you, the little homemaker, canning applesauce. I still have never canned anything although I think it would be a really good thing to learn one of these days. Congrats on both of these new things!
